Leavenworth reinvented itself decades ago as a Bavarian-style village, and it committed fully: half-timbered storefronts, beer gardens, and an alpine feel that would look out of place anywhere else in Washington. Surrounded by the Cascades along the Icicle and Wenatchee Rivers, the setting backs the theme up honestly.
It gets busy, especially during the holiday lighting festival and Oktoberfest, but even on a quiet weekday the mountain backdrop and river access make it worth the detour off Highway 2.
