Jackson Hole is really two places: the town of Jackson, with its antler arches over the town square and a walkable core of restaurants and galleries, and Teton Village, a ski resort about a half hour away at the base of the mountains.
It is also one of the best-positioned bases in the region for national parks. Grand Teton National Park starts almost at the edge of town, and Yellowstone's south entrance is under an hour north, which makes Jackson Hole a strong single base for both parks in one trip.

About an hour to Yellowstone's south entrance, which makes it realistic to base in Jackson Hole and day-trip into both Grand Teton and Yellowstone.
